Study English in California: Real-Life Learning at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at USC

Students from Language Systems International had an incredible real-life learning experience at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, held at the campus of the University of Southern California.

This event is one of the largest and most important literary festivals in the United States, held annually at USC and bringing together tens of thousands of visitors, renowned authors, publishers, and book lovers from around the world. During the festival, the university transforms into a vibrant cultural hub, promoting education, diversity, and the exchange of ideas—values that are deeply aligned with USC’s mission as one of the most prestigious institutions in California.

During the event, our students, accompanied by Professor Caroline, had the opportunity to practice English in real-life situations, interact with authors, explore various literary genres, purchase books, collect autographs, and receive a variety of souvenirs from exhibitors.

Being on a university campus like USC also allows students to experience the American academic environment firsthand, which is incredibly motivating for those who aspire to study at a U.S. university.

Events like the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books are especially valuable for students learning English because they provide real immersion in the language. Instead of practicing only in the classroom, students are exposed to natural conversations, different accents, and authentic vocabulary used in everyday contexts. Interacting with authors, asking questions, and navigating the event in English helps build confidence, improve listening skills, and expand vocabulary in a meaningful way. It also encourages students to step out of their comfort zone and actively use the language, which is essential for true fluency.

The group included ESL and TOEFL students, as well as former Language Systems students who are now attending universities in the United States. Even after graduating, many of them continue to participate in our events, showing the strong sense of community we build at Language Systems.

At Language Systems, we believe that learning English goes far beyond the classroom. Experiences like this are essential for developing communication skills, building confidence, and truly living the language.

If you would like to have experiences like this, get in touch with us! We offer short-term programs (1 to 13 weeks), ideal for students traveling on a tourist visa or ESTA, as well as intensive programs for those seeking a student visa—we are authorized to issue the I-20 form.

Our team speaks multiple languages and is ready to support you every step of the way.

Come study English in California and experience learning both inside and outside the classroom!
